What 15+ Years Of Being a comic artist has taught me!

15+ years of creating and being an artist isn’t always about “making it.”

I’m 35 now, and art still isn’t my full income. I still work while trying to protect time and energy to create. Some seasons I’m consistent, other seasons I’m just surviving life and trying not to lose the part of me that loves making things.

And honestly, I think the artists who last aren’t always the most talented, they’re the ones who found a reason to stay.

Over the years I’ve learned:

• creativity changes as you grow, and that’s okay

• having another job doesn’t make you any less of an artist

• comparison steals more creativity than lack of skill ever will

• growth often happens quietly without you noticing

• your voice comes from honesty, not perfection

• discipline matters, but kindness toward yourself matters too

• success isn’t being seen by everyone, rather, it’s being able to keep creating because you love it!

To still be making art after all these years makes me proud.

And to every artist balancing work, responsibilities, mental health, or simply adulthood while still trying to create: I see you. And, What you do matters as long as YOU love doing it.
