On May 30th, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a vibrant Sci-Fi convention called IceCon. This event brought together fans, creators, and enthusiasts from all walks of life, creating a unique space to celebrate our shared passions. Alongside Gunnar, the writer of my comic, I was honored to be invited as an honorary guest there. We hosted a workshop and participated in several panel discussions, including one with the author of Mickey 7, whose book was adapted into the movie Mickey 17. I even managed to fool him into signing his book for me haha!
This post shares my experience and highlights from the event.

Meeting Fellow Fans and Creators
One of the most rewarding parts of the convention was meeting so many passionate people who share a love for comics, fantasy, science fiction, and horror. The energy was contagious. Conversations flowed easily, whether about favorite storylines, character development, or the creative process behind comics and novels.
Gunnar and I found it inspiring to connect with other creators and fans. These interactions reminded me why I started this journey in the first place: to share stories that spark imagination and bring people together. The enthusiasm from attendees made every moment feel special.

Hosting the Workshop
Our workshop focused on the art of comic storytelling. We covered how to develop compelling characters, build immersive worlds, and balance narrative with visuals. Hosting a workshop for the first time was quite overwhelming, but attendees were eager to learn and asked fun and insightful questions, which made the session surprisingly interactive and fun.
Some key points we emphasized included:
The importance of clear, concise dialogue to keep readers engaged
Using visual cues to guide the reader through the page and enhance emotional impact
Balancing pacing to maintain suspense and interest

Panel Discussions with Industry Experts
The panels were a highlight of the convention. One particularly memorable session featured Edward, the writer of Mickey 7. Hearing about the journey from book to movie adaptation gave valuable insight into the challenges and rewards of storytelling across different media.

Behind the Scenes: Organizing Such an Event
Events like this require a lot of effort behind the scenes. The organizers did a fantastic job coordinating schedules, managing logistics, and creating a welcoming environment. Their dedication ensured everything ran smoothly and attendees had a positive experience.
From setting up booths to arranging panel rooms and workshops, every detail was handled with care. The friendly volunteers and staff contributed to the warm atmosphere that made the convention feel like a community gathering rather than just an event.
Looking Forward to Future Events
This convention was such a fun gathering, it was a celebration of creativity and imagination. I am deeply grateful to everyone who organized the event, attended our sessions, and stopped by to chat. Your enthusiasm made the experience unforgettable.
I am already looking forward to the next convention. These events are vital for connecting creators and fans, sharing knowledge, and pushing the boundaries of sci-fi storytelling. If you have the chance to attend the con next year, I highly recommend it.
I hope my experience or the lack of it inspires you, dear reader, to explore your own creative passions and seek out communities that share your interests.
